Rusticator ($5 Cover)
March 2 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm$5
Rusticator is an acoustic band with an Americana spirit. Stripped back drums and a hollow-bodied bass lend a woody backbeat, while steady acoustic guitar supports jazz-inflected fiddle playing and the group’s three-part harmonies. Their eclectic yet accessible live sets include everything from Miles Davis to Bob Dylan to the Grateful Dead alongside their original songs.
The quartet has been entertaining Capital Region audiences since 2013 and released their second album, Get it While it Lasts, in August 2017. “We’re very excited about this record” says Tony Califano, the group’s guitarist and lead singer. “We made a conscious effort to try to bring our live sound and energy into the recording process and it has translated into some music that sounds really fresh and dynamic.” Rusticator’s bassist and vocalist Brig McCutcheon is also excited about the new recording, “not only because these are great songs, but it’s my first writing credit on the tune, Island in the Forest”. Drummer Derek Dobson is in accord with the rest of the guys about the new recording, “every year we get tighter musically and we are really gelling at our live shows.” Joe Gumpper, the band’s dynamic fiddle player sums up their appeal, “I’ve played in a lot of different bands and formats and Rusticator definitely has something special and unique both live and in the studio.”
Rusticator has been featured at Saratoga’s First Night, Mabee Farm’s “Howlin’ at the Moon” concert series, and multiple appearances at some of the Albany area’s finest brew pubs and eateries. Their song Greenwich Time was included on WEXT’s top Local 518 songs for 2015. According to David Malachowski of the Times Union, Rusticator’s 2015 debut album Waiting for the Dawn “makes a big splash with this wonderful collection of songs, so seek this record out, as well as their live shows. You surely won’t be disappointed.”
